Nativity facade
Every surface is covered: plants, animals, musicians, the flight into Egypt. Gaudí cast local people and even animals to get the anatomy right. Seen from the small park across Carrer de la Marina in the morning, the whole composition catches direct sun.
Passion facade
Subirachs answered Gaudí with the opposite language — bare, sharp, deliberately harsh, with a cryptogram of numbers that add to 33 in every direction. Purists dislike it; almost everyone finds it powerful. Best photographed in the late afternoon from the pond side of Plaça de la Sagrada Família.
Glory facade
When finished it will be the ceremonial entrance, reached across a raised platform over Carrer de Mallorca. Its construction is the reason cranes still stand over the site and the reason some visitor routes change from year to year.
Visitor tips
- Photograph the Nativity facade before 11:00 and the Passion facade after 16:00.
- Cross to the far side of both squares — you cannot frame the towers from the pavement below.
- Look for the Subirachs cryptogram near the flagellation group.

- Only walking the entrance side and never circling the building.
- Trying to fit the whole basilica in one frame from close range.
